Kuusisto Bishop's Castle Ruins
Kuusisto Bishop's Castle Ruins
The high-ranking clergymen's grand castle in Kuusisto was a showcase of everyday luxury in the age in question, featuring modern conveniences from abroad. In the Middle Ages, the bishop's palace was not only the centre of spiritual life in Catholic Finland, but also the focal point of political power. The castle's story came to an end when King Gustav Vasa ordered the bishop's residence to be demolished after the Reformation. Ruins were all that remained of former glories. Ideal for families, visitors arriving by water and culture enthusiasts.
Kuusisto Bishop’s Castle Ruins are managed by Metsähallitus. Please always check the rules of the destination before making your trip.
