Tour de Skiftet – a cycling route in the heart of the Archipelago Sea

Tour de Skiftet is a unique cycling route in the northern part of the Archipelago Sea. The route circles the Kihti sea area via Kustavi, Iniö, Houtskär and Brändö – and back again. The route is open during the season 8 May–13 September 2026.

The total length of the route is approximately 120 kilometres, of which around 60 kilometres are travelled by bike or on foot. The rest of the journey is covered by the archipelago’s ferries and connecting vessels. The route includes four ferry crossings and four connecting vessel journeys, making it a truly unique experience.

Who is the route suitable for?

The route is primarily designed for cyclists, but it can also be experienced on foot. It is not suitable for cars, as the ferry between Houtskär and Brändö only has space for two cars. The roads along the route are paved village and country roads, and the terrain is relatively flat, as is typical for the archipelago.

Scenery and services

Along the way, the scenery shifts between idyllic archipelago villages, open sea views and historic cultural landscapes. Accommodation and restaurant services are available along the route during the summer season.
