Seili
The island of Seili is a charming destination for friends of history and the archipelago. It has a gloomy past as a remote place of confinement for lepers and a mental asylum. Those exiled to the island brought along the planks for their coffin and never returned to the outside world. Today, visitors can admire the Museum Church of Seili and enjoy the charming island views, events, accommodation, restaurant and good ferry connections from May till Mid-August.
In the summertime the island offers accommodation, restaurant services and daily guided tours. The museum church hosts church services, concerts and other cultural activities in summer. Guided tours of the church are available by advance booking.
Nature trail (1,7 km) introduces visitors to the rich mix of lush herb-rich forests, beautiful heritage landscapes and rugged coniferous woods. The signage describes the scientific work done in the Archipelago Sea by the Archipelago Research Institute (utu.fi) based in the island of Seili.
Hiking trail (1.3 km) introduces visitors to key locations on the island of Seili. The signage on the route described the nature and history of the island. Visitors should follow the route marked on the map. The trail runs along a gravel road, which is easy to navigate but hilly.
