Wild berries & Finnish freedom 🍓
In Finland, nature isn’t just something you look at, it’s something you taste. Thanks to Everyman’s Rights, anyone can wander through forests, breathe in the pine-scented air, and enjoy nature’s sweetest treasures straight from the bush.
🍀 What you can pick (and eat!) in the archipelago:
Blueberries – Dark blue forest berries, mildly sweet. Perfect fresh or frozen.
Wild raspberries – Juicy reds thriving in sunny, open spots.
Lingonberries – Bright, tart berries from dry pine forests, ideal for jams and juices.
Cloudberries – Golden-orange bog berries, ripe from mid-July.
Wild strawberries – Tiny, aromatic bursts of summer.
Cranberries – Red, tangy berries picked late in the season.
These are common, safe and delicious berries you can enjoy during your stay.
🌿So bring a basket, take only what you need, and leave no trace. The forest always gives more to those who treat it gently.

This august you are invited to step into a world of bloom at Pargas Hortensia Park. 💐 Planted a few years ago as part of a Europe-wide trial, the park’s 114 varieties of Japanese hydrangeas have now matured into a spectacular display of colour.

While the Hortensia Park is open every day of the week and free to visit, from 16:00 to 19:00 on this special day you can stroll among the flowers, vote for your favourite (and least favourite!) varieties, and be in with a chance to win a hydrangea to take home. 🩷
Bring a blanket, some snacks, and your favourite people, and soak up a summer evening surrounded by flowers, friends, and that golden August light. 💐
📅 When: Wednesday 20th of August from 16:00-19:00

Time for a picnic! 🍉
Bring a snack, find a spot you love – and enjoy summer just as it is. A picnic works anywhere: on a seaside rock, in the park, by the water, or simply on your own lawn☀️
Simple moments can be the most memorable. And don’t forget – nature thrives when we leave it just as we found it. Bring your trash home, use reusable containers, and choose local treats when you can💚

The Red of the Archipelago Sea – Island Ingenuity in Every Brushstroke ❤️🏡
In the Finnish Archipelago, the iconic deep red of boathouses and cottages is more than a charming tradition — it’s a story of resourcefulness, resilience, and life by the sea.
Long before commercial paint was available, islanders used what the land and sea provided. Wood was protected with tar or seal oil, passed down through generations as essential knowledge. Seal oil soaked deep into the timber, shielding it from the elements — though it left behind a strong, distinctive scent, especially on warm summer days.
When the copper-rich pigment known as Falu red arrived from Sweden, it offered something better: even greater durability, at a low cost. Islanders began mixing it with seal oil, creating the rich, earthy red that soon spread across every shoreline. It was practical, affordable — and beautiful.
Today, that familiar red tells a deeper story. It’s not just a color. It’s the spirit of the archipelago — weatherwise, warm, and always welcoming.

In the Finnish archipelago, art is closely tied to local life and landscape. 💙
It appears in everyday materials and familiar places, like carved signs on boathouses, handwoven rugs in old kitchens, and decorative details on boats and fences.
Art connects people to places. It’s not separate from culture; it is culture. It reflects shared knowledge, seasonal rhythms, and inherited skills. Even small details, like the curve of a handmade tool or the colors used in a window frame, carry stories about local identity and ways of life.
