Calm waters, rugged islets, red boathouses, and that feeling of being far away from everything else. 🌊

The Finnish archipelago is one of the worlds largest, with over 10,000 islands, each with it’s own rhythm, story and charm.

Whether you’re paddling past small islands, biking along coastal roads, or sipping coffee at a tiny harbor café, this place slows you down. In the best way possible!

And the best part? It’s all real, untouched, authentic and waiting for you.

The Red of the Archipelago Sea – Island Ingenuity in Every Brushstroke ❤️🏡

In the Finnish Archipelago, the iconic deep red of boathouses and cottages is more than a charming tradition — it’s a story of resourcefulness, resilience, and life by the sea.

Long before commercial paint was available, islanders used what the land and sea provided. Wood was protected with tar or seal oil, passed down through generations as essential knowledge. Seal oil soaked deep into the timber, shielding it from the elements — though it left behind a strong, distinctive scent, especially on warm summer days.

When the copper-rich pigment known as Falu red arrived from Sweden, it offered something better: even greater durability, at a low cost. Islanders began mixing it with seal oil, creating the rich, earthy red that soon spread across every shoreline. It was practical, affordable — and beautiful.

Today, that familiar red tells a deeper story. It’s not just a color. It’s the spirit of the archipelago — weatherwise, warm, and always welcoming.

In the Finnish archipelago, art is closely tied to local life and landscape. 💙

It appears in everyday materials and familiar places, like carved signs on boathouses, handwoven rugs in old kitchens, and decorative details on boats and fences.

Art connects people to places. It’s not separate from culture; it is culture. It reflects shared knowledge, seasonal rhythms, and inherited skills. Even small details, like the curve of a handmade tool or the colors used in a window frame, carry stories about local identity and ways of life.

🌞 Vacation Mode: ON — in the Finnish Archipelago

Looking to really unplug? Welcome to the Finnish archipelago, where slowing down isn’t just encouraged — it’s a way of life. 💙

In Parainen, the days unfold gently. The air smells like salt and pine, and the sea stretches calmly between green-speckled islands. Mornings start with quiet coffee on the dock, watching the water sparkle — evenings end with a golden-hour paddle or a steaming seaside sauna.

🚤 Island-hopping, picnics on sun-warmed cliffs and kayaking through narrow straits… There’s always something to do — if you feel like doing anything at all. Here, nature isn’t a destination. It’s just outside your door.

Stay in a cozy cottage, where the sea breeze drifts through open windows and dinner might be something you caught yourself. The soundtrack? Birds, waves, and nothing else.

No stress, no traffic, just open skies, and time to breathe. In the archipelago, vacation isn’t just about taking a break. It’s about finding your rhythm again.

Ready to switch off and slow down? The archipelago is calling. 🌿

Sail the Archipelago Sea the timeless way — aboard a Storbåt. 🌊

These small yet graceful wooden boats are more than vessels — they’re living pieces of our maritime heritage. Storbåt have sailed these waters for generations, ever since people first made their lives among the islands.

Simple and functional, yet masterfully handcrafted, they’re built for both calm summer evenings and the unpredictable moods of the Baltic Sea.

A wooden hull, a Baltic breeze, the scent of tar, and good company — this is sailing at its purest.

This summer, tradition meets tranquility in these beautiful harbors:
🗓️ 13 July – Kittuis, Houtskär
🗓️ 19 July – Norrby, Iniö
🗓️ 9 August – Matglädje (local food festival), Houtskär

📸 Tag someone you’d love to bring on a storbåt adventure!
